Introduction
Euthanasia (Mercy Killing)

Many called it the moral issue of the 90s and if current trends continue, it promises to retain that title well into the future.

Coma, inoperable cancer, Alzheimer's disease, severally handicapped newborns - many Christians have faced these circumstances in their lives. How, in the face of such crisis and grief, do we respond?

Even if we never face these agonizing issues personally, do we still have a responsibility as Christians to take a stand? The answer is a resounding yes; however, many Christian would like to take a stand but are unsure how God would have them respond. For that reason the Scholl Institute of Bioethics and Crusade for Life have developed this Bible based study entitled "A Christian Response To Euthanasia." This course has four sessions and was designed to help Christians in the following areas:

First Session- Define euthanasia and gain an understanding of what God says about euthanasia.

Second Session - Establish Christian values regarding the care of sick and dying persons.

Third Session - Apply Christian principles to real life treatment decisions.

Fourth Session - Be alert to the dangers of legalizing euthanasia and what actions they can take to protect each of their loved ones with a pro-life Advance Directive instead of a Living Will.

What Others Are Saying About "A Christian Response to Euthanasia":

Joni Eareckson Tada, JAF Ministries, The Disability Outreach of Joni Eareckson Tada
"Our society needs Christians who have wrestled with issues of the day in a biblical way. Crusade for Life has provided a tool to do just that. Questions and Bible studies are arranged in such a way as to help the participant formulate intelligent and Christlike convictions."

Donald S. Smith, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Crusade for Life and producer of "The Silent Scream", "Your Crisis Pregnancy", "The Right to Kill" and others
"Crusade for Life's informative packet on euthanasia makes a difficult subject unusually clear. The conservative viewpoint presented is excellent material for teaching, seminars, and discussions and is especially appropriate for church audiences and groups."

Dr. Donald P. Shoemaker, Senior Pastor, Grace Community Church of Seal Beach
"In 1986 my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. My family found ourselves thrust unexpectedly but thoroughly into the issues of death and dying. In our home, with the valuable help of Hospice, we cared for Mother until her death. I wish I had known then all I know now about the issues of dying. 'A Christian Response to Euthanasia' goes a long way to fill that knowledge gap. May God use it to direct us away from the false siren song of euthanasia and toward meaningful care for the dying."

Tim DeRyan, High School Religious Teacher
"As a Catholic High School teacher, I could sure have used this resource! It's nice to have it all together. The tie-in with the scripture makes it very practical for the Christian High School. The video is the ideal supplement. The kids take to seeing the actual interviews of people such as the doctors in Holland and the patients at the hospice in England."
